More needs to be done across the European Union (EU) to ensure smooth movement of workers between jobs.
This is according to Laszlo Andor, the employment, EU social affairs and inclusion commissioner, who pointed out as many as 30 per cent of employees in the region may be hired or leave their posts each year.
Speaking in Brussels, he noted more active labor market policies and dynamics are required to improve employment and ensure skills shortages are addressed.
Mr Andor delivered his address at the Conference on the Future of European Labour Markets, stating: "Increasing overall participation and employment implies both micro-economic and macro-economic policies."
In addition to Mr Andor, Nobel Prize laureate economist Christopher Pissarides also spoke to the conference, telling the press after his address that he believes it may not be possible to achieve an EU target of 75 per cent employment by 2020, the Financial Mirror reports.
