Irish PM outlines plans to boost employment

The new Irish prime minister has outlined his government's plans for the future of employment in the country.

Following the global economic downturn, the jobs market in Ireland has been depleted and Enda Kenny is now looking at ways in which work opportunities can be generated.

The Fine Gael leader, who is now heading a coalition with Labour, explained he plans to establish a new budget to promote jobs growth, according to the Examiner.

In addition, Mr Kenny proposed halving the lower rate of pay-related social insurance for employers and generating 15,000 extra training or work experience places.

The Press and Journal quoted him speaking in the Dail after being sworn in as taoiseach, when he declared he plans to tell the population "the truth of our situation always, however unwelcome it might be".

"The next chapter of our history requires a leap of faith," Mr Kenny added.
